The Community Eye
The Community Eye is a monthly magazine, which is delivered, entirely free of charge, to each and every one of the 430 or so homes in the villages of Ashton, Moreton Eye, Eye, Luston, Eyton and part of The Broad, near Leominster.
The magazine is compiled by volunteers within the group parish and printed with the help of the team at the Forbury, the offices of the Priory Church in Leominster. Back in the parish, a further team of some 40 distributors delivers the latest edition around the houses within each community before the start of the month.
The aim of the “Eye” is to inform, perhaps to amuse and even to educate. Every month there are contributions from representatives of the various groups within the parish – alphabetically, the Cawley Hall and events which happen there, the Parish Churches of Eye and Eyton, Folley’s Lane Woodland Group, the Friendship Club, Local History, the Monthly Lunches, the Parish Council, the W.I. Other current regular features are Tom’s Farming Diary and Pet of the Month. Orleton Gardening Club draws its membership from a wide local area, including substantial support from this parish and the account contains useful hints for any keen gardeners, and there are many, in the parish. Orleton Young Farmers are occasional contributors and members of the teaching staff of Luston School sometimes send in examples of the children’s work.
Original contributions from members of the parish are always welcome. We know that people here have interesting skills and interests and many visit exciting places here and overseas. We have had some interesting occasional articles over the years featuring Natural History, Recipes, the Celtic Seasons, Clay Pipes………… Please go on sending us your contributions to help us to keep the magazine fresh.
Although the Community Eye is a free magazine, there are inevitable costs in its production. Every effort is made to keep these costs to a minimum without any sacrifice of quality, but we do rely entirely upon donations from individuals and parish organisations, and revenue from advertising. Without these two sources of income, the magazine would cease to exist.
The closing date for all contributions is the 15th of the month.
